Elected officials and community members cut the ribbon at a celebration on July 23. Readers of all ages helped christen the new branch by browsing the shelves and checking out books.
The 2,800 square-foot temporary branch, located at Vienna’s Cedar Park Shopping Center, will keep library services accessible for Vienna residents while the Maple Avenue location is undergoing major reconstruction.
The temporary branch features a small browsing section, public Wi-Fi, Chromebooks for onsite use, and limited programming such as story time for kids. Library users can also pick up holds or return books at the temporary location.
The temporary branch will remain open until construction on the future Vienna-Carter Library is completed on the old Patrick Henry Library site at 101 Maple Ave. E. The Vienna-Carter Library will feature an expansive, state-of-the-art facility and a four-level parking structure. It will also feature an outdoor reading and gathering space and a flexible community space that will be open during and after regular business hours.
The new Vienna-Carter library is expected to open in the summer of 2027.
The temporary Patrick Henry Library is located at 262 Cedar Lane, Unit C, Vienna, VA 22180. It is open Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, click here.
