Body Grace Fitness and Yoga first opened its doors on April 26, 2010, at the corner of Mill and Church Street. A group fitness and yoga studio, Body Grace strives to help students achieve physical, mental, and emotional strength through consistent exercise, while promoting belonging, kindness, and joy.
The studio was originally founded by Jan Crerie, whom current owner Paula Doyle considers her “yoga role model”. Paula took the business over in 2020 and remained at that first location until March 30, 2026.
The transition wasn’t easy – 2020 was also the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. But, with the help of the Vienna Business Association (VBA) and support from the community, they stayed open and kept growing.
“When COVID hit 10 weeks into my ownership, Peggy [James] was my rock… we learned from each other where to buy cleaning supplies and masks, and we kept each other motivated, optimistic, and healthy,” Paula said. “The studio has only grown since that time. I’m so grateful to Jan [Crerie], our 19 wonderful teachers, and our very supportive clients and community!”
At the heart of Body Grace is community. Paula understands the difficulty of running a business in one of the most competitive economies in the nation. Rather than face those challenges alone, she chose to embrace collaboration and find ways to partner with local businesses.
“We learned early on that in order to meet the demands of high rent in Vienna – it’s important to partner with like-minded businesses,” Paula said. “Together, we have shared the rent in our lovely spaces so that we can keep pace with ever higher rental fees.”
Body Grace shares their space with six businesses: Grass Roots Fitness, the Maple School of Irish Dance, Insight Meditation Community of Washington, Heart Tree Yoga & Myofascial Release, Primary Motion PT, and provides one class a week for Evolution Fitness members. Paula’s daughter also runs her health consultant business out of the studio.
Community and fitness remain central to everything Body Grace does. Whether you’re looking to unwind after a long day with mat Pilates or work on strength training outdoors, Body Grace offers you a place to get strong and build even stronger relationships with those around you.
“I think Body Grace is set apart from other classes because there is more than just yoga or fitness going on in the classroom. It’s also community.” - Body Grace Member
